Different methods of gaining separation between objects are interesting to me. Especially in this instance because the whole image is made up of thousands of effectively identical tiny branches, and the difference between how a human eye would perceive it versus how the camera does makes for an interesting subject. Initially I tried to get separation just from the shallow depth of field, but I found that it also needed to be black and white, otherwise the uniform color was making it harder to pick out the featured branch than I would have liked.
